The iPod Touch is a sleek portable media player that has been developed and sold by Apple. The product was first unveiled in September 2007 and has since become a hit for Apple. The iPod Touch can be bought with either 8mb or 16GB of flash memory. The device is WIFI enabled and uses Apples Safari web browser. The most distinguishing feature about the iPod Touch is the touch screen functionality. Users can interface with the device by using the touch screen.
On 17th October 2006 Apple CEO, Steve Jobs announced that the SDK for the iPhone would be made available to software developers early next year. Since the SDK also applies to the iPod Touch this means that third party software providers will be able to create applications for the iPod Touch.
Even though its not officially possible to download third party applications to the iPod Touch, users have been ‘jailbreaking’ the device for months. Jailbreaking allows users to unlock their iPod Touches to allow them run third party apps.
